Looking to buy TikTok followers? Hold your mouse. You’ll want to read this article first before going ahead with these ”service providers”. There are tons of companies out there offering fast growth and increased engagement for your TikTok account. But can they actually help your reach? This article tells all.

TikTok now has over 1 billion users. With so much potential for growth on the platform, it should be easy to get your account building followers, right?

Unfortunately, organic social media growth can be challenging. We get it. But on TikTok there is a vast and eager audience of real people waiting to see your content. Many of these high quality active users belong to the most influential generation yet: Gen Z. In fact, Over half of Gen Z consumers are on TikTok.

Holding their attention on the app can be tricky. You have 8 seconds to win them over, and are the most ad-averse generation yet. Getting them to follow your account is a tough feat. But does buying TikTok followers work? Let’s find out.

How do you buy TikTok followers?

When you type in “buy TikTok followers” on Google, swathes of ads greet you promising instant results for cash. They tend to offer packages to increase the following:

  • Buy TikTok followers
  • Buy TikTok likes
  • Buy TikTok views

Once you find a legitimate company (some are clearly outright scammers), you can then make a payment for different packages to buy TikTok followers and likes.

After paying for the package, you’ll get instant delivery of purchased followers to your account. How much does it cost? On one site, followers cost from $2.47 (for 50 followers) to $275 (for 50,000) – but they tend to make “followers packages“ with higher figures more economical in terms of scale, to urge you to spend more on your credit card

You can also buy TikTok accounts in specific niches with an existing following. They come with a name, follower count and sometimes content already on the TikTok profile. You can also find these online and spend some hard-earned cash on attaining one of them (some are as expensive as £24,000).

So there are plenty of options to drum up your followers fast. But are they worth it?

Should you buy followers on TikTok?

Getting a large influx of followers would probably feel good in the short term. It’s instant social proof. After all, who doesn’t love a get rich quick scheme (or rather a ‘get followers quick’ scheme)?

The problem? These followers you’ve just received won’t give you the engagement or community your brand needs. Seeing users interact with your brand or business is the number one priority for marketers, and while it can look impressive to have a large following on TikTok, buying followers can actually hurt your engagement.

Even if they‘re not bots, those fake followers aren’t going to behave like followers who found you organically. They won’t watch your videos, comment with their reactions, or share your content with their friends. They’ll do nothing. And that ‘nothing’ behaviour will tell TikTok that your content is boring.

Boring content gets de-prioritised by the TikTok algorithm. It won’t show your videos to new people. Which means it’ll become harder for you to grow.

That’s great news for these sites – because if you can’t access organic growth (leading to organic followers), you’re more likely to buy from them again.

But what about the rules of the social media platform? If you’re wondering, “can I get banned from TikTok if I buy followers?”, the answer is no. But the workforce behind this social media channel aren’t fools. When you receive a chunk of random new followers to your account, TikTok checks their validity. TikTok will cull fake accounts, meaning that the high number of followers you just achieved could decrease. You’ll likely get a notification telling you just that.

Buying a niched TikTok account will also cause problems. Many of these are beefed up with fake accounts as followers, meaning your engagement and interactions will suffer. Even buying genuine accounts is problematic: there was a reason those real TikTok followers were attracted to the old account owner. Starting to serve them your new branded content could confuse them or switch them off, and cause quality followers to click that dreaded “unfollow” button.

After all, the best quality followers are those who pay attention. So they’ll be the first to spot if something suspicious is going on – like the TikTok username changing to your brand name as the Tiktok account changes hands, for instance.

Still tempted? There’s more to consider…

5 crucial things to consider before buying TikTok followers

TikTok is an intuitive social media channel. The TikTok algorithm learns about you & your TikTok account as you interact with it, so before you artificially increase your follower count, we want to take you through some essential considerations.

1. Why do you want to grow your TikTok followers?

Social media followers alone don’t mean much. Sure, it looks great at first to have a huge follower base, but the reason it looks great is because those followers should be real, paying customers for your business. That’s the end goal of your social media marketing activity: to help your business grow.

If those followers aren’t going to buy your products or support your business, they are not helping you in material terms.

It’s far better to have fewer, real followers who are genuinely interested in your brand and purchase regularly from you. That way, you’ll start seeing material gains as a result of your TikTok activity.

Eventually, if you keep your small customer base happy, you’ll grow through word of mouth. The same goes for growing your social media presence on TikTok. If you create a strong connection with a small community, the algorithm (and the community themselves) will start to promote you.

2. Authentic content is the name of the game

TikTok is about creative, authentic content. 77% of TikTok users say the platform is a place where they can express themselves. That’s what Gen Zers want from brands, too. Zoomers are always searching for creative TikToks they can genuinely relate to. Fake follower counts aren’t just unlikely to impress them: it’s actually the opposite of what Gen Zers like about TikTok.

Trying to get follower counts up artificially will never make up for poor quality content. If you have a small following right now, your first step should be to assess if your content is boring. Think about the kind of videos your ideal customer would like – and make them.

Making great TikTok videos that engage your audience through entertaining hooks and trends is a good place to start. You want to attract your ideal customers and turn them into your followers. So focus your energy where it really counts!

There’s a reason why lots of brands use TikTok hashtag, challenge and sound trends. They’re super popular amongst TikTokers: that’s why they’re trends.

3. TikTok can help you make a connection

Setting follower growth as a target might be one KPI for your business, but TikTok offers so much more. This app gives brands the potential for deeper connection with consumers, which means more added value per customer, increased loyalty, and increased likelihood that they’ll recommend you to their network.

So why look only at followers alone as a measure of success, when the true value of TikTok is so much more?

TikTok has the highest engagement rate for influencers among all social media apps, at 18%. It’s also a channel made for communities: 59% of TikTok users feel a sense of community when they are on the app, and the way users can create online circles around a particular brand is groundbreaking for digital marketing.

Consider where you measure your success before you buy TikTok followers because genuine engagement is far more powerful for businesses – and TikTok is uniquely well placed to help you achieve it.

4. The algorithm says no

If you make great TikTok content, TikTok’s personalisation algorithm will promote your content to the people who’ll like it the most.

How does TikTok recommend the right videos to the right people? There are a few factors that determine this, like video completion rate (i.e. viewer watch time), account authority (i.e. your consistency and quality of content) and engagement from the audience (i.e. their comments, responses, shares, etc.).

The algorithm boosts all videos for a small amount of time regardless of one’s follower count. If your content is engaging enough and people react well to it, it will be shown to a larger and larger group of people. So with this in mind, how important is follower count to the TikTok algorithm? Answer: not very.

Having a ton of followers won’t make a massive impact on your reach. It’s genuine engagement, completions and likes that count most.

5. There’s more than one way to boost your following

Paying so-called “TikTok services“ companies to boost your followers artificially won’t get you the results you’re looking for. But there are so many other algorithm-friendly ways to increase your reach on TikTok.

One of the most powerful methods of TikTok growth is influencer marketing. Pairing with the right influencers can make a massive difference to your TikTok marketing strategy, as they provide access to their existing TikTok fan communities. By using them to help promote your brand or product, you can tap into real engagement from dedicated users in an organic fashion.

What’s more? Gen Z listens to them. Over two-thirds of zoomers follow an influencer and 50% say they trust their recommendations. Collaborating with the correct influencer can increase your reach and build your following quickly and effectively, as well as turn into genuine sales.

Thinking it through

Yes, having a huge follower count on TikTok is appealing. But having a loyal, converting, TikTok community that comes back repeatedly is more rewarding – and lucrative – than any high follower count

Think about your end goal. What do you want your brand to do on TikTok? Gain brand awareness? Create a community? Convert sales? Your goals will determine your actions, and none of these are helped by fake followers

Because let’s be real: even if they’re not bots, the followers you buy on TikTok won’t compare to real customers at the checkout.
