There are currently over 3.2 billion social media users worldwide. And with an average 3 hours spent by users on social media every day, I know which platform takes the majority of my screen time. We don’t always like to admit it but we have all been guilty, once in a while, of spending a large chunk of our day scrolling through our favourite apps. But have you ever thought about what your favourite social media app says about you?
Let’s find out.
Facebook: Minimalistic, Opinionated & Nostalgic
You’re not too fussed about keeping up with the newest forms of social media and have a love for the simpler things in life. Whether it’s watching a daily dose of cute cat videos, to discovering a DIY Starbucks frappuccino recipe video, Facebook has just about everything you need.
But let’s not get it twisted. Just because you have a love for simplicity, doesn’t mean you’re boring.
You are likely to be opinionated and enjoy writing insightful statuses to share with your Facebook friends.
You are also no stranger to the feeling of nostalgia. You like to keep tabs on old friends and frequently browse old photo albums to stay connected to your past.
Snapchat: Funny, Care-free & Sociable
Snapchat lovers tend to have a great sense of humour and enjoy making use of Snapchat’s array of face filters by sending silly snapchats to their friends. If you spend the majority of your time on this app, you are likely to be sociable, spontaneous, and care-free.
You may also be a little bit risky, and favour the fact that your Snapchat photos only last 24 hours on your story and 10 seconds on a snap, so it is unlikely that they’ll come back to haunt you.
Instagram: Perfectionistic, Creative & Basic
There are definitely certain tell-tale signs for Instagram enthusiasts. You are likely to be a visual learner, who is obsessed with aesthetics and pretty-looking things which are rooted in your perfectionist nature.
You use Instagram for creative inspiration and put thought and time into creating content for your feed.
Whilst this all may be true, you may have previously been branded as ‘basic’ – being a lover of spiced pumpkin lattes and roof-top views, you blend in with other users of the app.
TikTok: Gen Z, Goofy & Socially-aware
Let me guess, you’re the really optimistic friend that is up for anything and is always telling their friends to loosen up?
You probably have a low attention span, an eclectic music taste, and don’t take yourself too seriously. You aren’t worried about looking imperfect, because that’s what makes you different.
What’s more, with 60% of users on the app between the 16-24 age group, Tiktok just screams Gen Z. Being a part of the Digital Natives, you love to get involved in viral trends, dance challenges, and social awareness content on the app. You are also someone who can’t stand FOMO. You want to keep up with everything and cannot bear to miss out.
Twitter: Political, Witty & Meme-lover
Are you a lover of memes and over-sharing? Then you are probably nuts for Twitter. This is a platform that functions on memes and is overflowing with thoughts and opinions of those too introverted to express in real life.
Nonetheless, just because you enjoy the occasional meme, doesn’t mean you can’t be serious.
Twitter users like a lot of different things and have interests in everything from food, sports, music, money, to engaging in political discussion among peers. You frequently get deep in your feelings and are the type of person to share a witty and smart take on a current political or social issue.
